What is Andover's Climate day of action?

Climate change is one of the most important challenges we face. Often we think about this as a national or global challenge but it’s also one we must address locally as well. With this in mind, in June 2021, a number of Andover Vision partners came together to highlight this issue and call others to take action in our town.

And so, Andover's Climate Day of Action was born!

We know that many local people and organisations already do so much to fight climate change and we want to provide an opportunity to showcase and celebrate all these things whilst encouraging individuals, community groups, businesses and schools to make a pledge to go a step further and make a difference, however big or small, that will help tackle the climate emergency.

The 2021 Climate Day of Action was a great success with many local individuals and organisations taking part. This year, it's  back and will be bigger and better! This year, we're tying in with the Great Big Green Week, run by the Climate Coalition, this means that at the same time as people in Andover are doing their bit for the planet, others across the UK will be doing their bit too.

So, what's happening?

As part of the Climate Day of Action and Great Big Green Week, here are some of the things you can get involved with:

Attend an event

Throughout the week, there'll be a number of events going on. You can find event details here!

Don't miss the Great Big Green Pop Up Shop and Market in the Chantry Centre on Saturday 24 September that'll feature eco themed workshops and activities, talks and information stalls.

Are you part of an organisation and want to run an event? Click here for further information! Whatever you want to do, we'd love to hear from you!

Take part and make a pledge for the planet

On Friday 30 September, we'd love for everyone in the town to make a pledge for the planet and do something to help reduce their carbon footprint. Whether you're an individual, school, business or community group, whatever you do can help make a difference.

Enter our competition!

This year, we're running a competition for young people to design a wildlife and insect garden. All the details can be found here.

Share what you're doing!

Whatever you do, make sure you share it to inspire and encourage others. Be sure to post on social media with the hashtag #andoverclimateaction and tag Andover Vision in your posts on Twitter and Facebook.

Not on social media? To send them to us directly then simply pop them in an email to andovervision@testvalley.gov.uk. We can then share them for you!

We would also like to film some of the activities on the day so please get in touch by emailing the address above, as it would be brilliant if we could come along to capture and share what you are doing.
