The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust have some exciting and popular on-line chalk stream related courses coming up soon and there are still a few spaces available on each. These area great opportunity if you would like to learn about water voles or invertebrates that live in our chalk streams!
These Courses are:
Introduction to water vole ecology and water vole surveys, Tuesday 13 October 7-8:30pm
Susan Simmonds will teach you all about water voles and how to discover if they are living in your chalk stream.
Chalk Stream Invertebrates for Beginners, Wednesday 21 October 7-9pm
Susan Simmonds will introduce you to some of our many fascinating insects that are living in our chalk streams.
These courses are free as they are fully funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund.

Four Fun Fridays 2020

In conjunction with Test Valley Borough Council and supported by the Chantry Centre, we are excited to announce that Four Fun Fridays returns on Friday 7 August. We have workshops, storytelling, trails and challenges for you!

Watercress and Winterbournes latest news
National Heritage Lottery fund team have given the project an extension to allow some last permissions to be put in place. The team are also working on a landscape conservation action plan which forms part of the submission.

Watercress and Winterbournes Project - Survey

The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust (HIWWT) are asking for your help with a survey for the Watercress and Winterbournes Project. The project is currently in development stage and HIWWT are working with local communities to shape the partnership's activities. If you live in one of thier catchment areas they would love to hear your views. There's a map available so you can check to see where you fit.
Completing this survey will help improve our valuable chalk stream environments and explore the fascinating human histories that have shaped them. If you choose not to provide your contact details your answers will be completely anonymous. The survey should take around 10 minutes to complete.

Love talking sport?

Sporting Memories is a friendly new group open for people that want to share their sporting memories, love of sport and socialise. The group will be meeting every Friday, to talk, listen and share sporting memories with older sports fans.
The Sporting Memories Foundation (a registered charity) is the World's first charity dedicated to Sports Reminiscence & Physical Activities.

Four Fun Fridays

August Fridays will be great again this summer with Four Fun Fridays returning from the 2 August.
The popular event will have a different theme each week, with shows, street theatre, creative workshops, facepainting and more.
The free event will take place every Friday until the 23 August, starting at 11am through to 3pm.

Watercress and Winterbournes surveyor training

There are still spaces on the Watercress and Winterbournes volunteer surveyor training events. The training will enable you to confidently carry out surveys of local rivers for the project.
In return for the training, you are committing to no more than two surveys in 2019 in a local area convenient to you.

International Day of Peace - 21 September 2018

Andover Trees United have been invited by United Nations Messenger of Peace Jane Goodall, of the JGI Roots and Shoots programme, to hold this years main UK event for the United Nation’s International Day of Peace in Andover on the 21st September.
In preparation for Andover’s main event – a procession to Harmony Woods - Andover Trees United have been working with Andover Vision at the Andover Carnival and Four Fun Fridays events this summer, to produce hundreds of doves and pledges.
To celebrate the day, Andover Vision Stakeholders are invited to take part in the main procession to Harmony Woods, starting from the Augusta Park Sports Pavilion at 10am on the morning of the 21st September. All participants are asked to arrive by 9.40am.
If you would like to make a dove, please email Andover Trees United at volunteers@andovertrees.org.uk for a template to create your own dove.
If you have a few hours to spare on the 21st, please join the procession as it walks to Harmony Woods with the London-based Roots & Shoots team, local school children and Andover Trees United volunteers.
Following the procession, the doves will be on display in Andover Library.

On your bike! Andover Town Cycling Festival 2018

The Andover Cycling Festival 2018 takes place on Sunday 22 July, featuring the inaugural Andover Pedalata and family fun cycle ride (5 or 15 mile options) starting at 11.30am. The four scenic routes are suitable for all ages and abilities.
The event will also feature two Sportive rides of either 105km/65miles (starting at 8.15am) or 65k/40miles (starting at 9.15am).
The rides showcase the beauty of the Test Valley countryside and will be mainly traffic free.
There will also be refreshments stops on the routes or you can bring a picnic!
Andover Front Gardens in Bloom competition

The first Andover In Bloom competition, Front Gardens In Bloom, is open for entries.
If you live in the Andover & Villages area (SP postcodes) and have a front garden you are proud of, enter the competition and you could be a winner!
Prizes include a £60 Garden centre gift card, afternoon tea for two at Rosebournes and shed & fence paint.
